No other country can provide what is needed now in Haiti except the USA. Helicopters go where there are no roads and terrain is difficult. But the 19 helicopters, which have just arrived, are not enough.
The US military, government and the private sector has plenty of helicopters, more than 2,000. Can the civil society demand our government and corporate leaders who own hundreds of helicopters to send them to Haiti.
There are hardly any functioning roads in Haiti right now. There is literally no administration. But wandering injured are everywhere as we can see on our TV.
Their lives could be saved but they have already started dying from injuries which are not life threatening provided some surgical and medical help is available.
When October 8th, 2005 earthquake hit Kashmir, Pakistan, I worked with a small team of volunteers to come forward for just one specific task: to get more US helicopters to airlift aid to the victims in the inaccessible disaster zone.

It was then a young first time Senator from Illinois, Senator Barak Obama, who played a critical role in getting more helicopters to Pakistan to save lives. I hope he remember his contribution as he helps Haiti.
Helicopters were the miracle workers in Kashmir when roads and terrain did not allow aid to reach different areas. The problem in supplying relief to Haiti are exactly similar to what they were in Kashmir: logistics.
As I see Haiti photos, every morning, I sit crying with helplessness that disaster after disaster our governments failed to learn from the last disaster to save lives.
All affected areas can be divided into 100 zones. Each zone can be assigned a helicopter and a surgical and medical team. They bring medical teams and supplies in from the neighboring countries and take injured back to USS Carl Vinson and to hospitals in Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Cuba and Puerto Rico.
Once injured are assisted, the same helicopters will be needed to bring in supplies to the same points from the sea freighters which will start arriving there in a week. This is what Haiti needs before one can get heavy equipment to clear the roads and rebuild them.
In the case of Kashmir, Pakistan, too many lives were lost in the first critical week as not many helicopters were available.
We know that saving one life is like saving the humanity (Bible, Quran).
