A joyous Martin Luther King day, to everyone. Is this any way to honor Martin Luther King?
The host this morning is not someone I recognize. He's new to me. He appeared stoic throughout this uncomfortable exchange of accusations.
The first caller to use the 'n*****' word was a woman who portrayed herself as being an older African American. She claimed that both Beck and "Limbarg" used the 'n*****' word and no one stopped them. The C-SPAN host asked her if she heard them use that word. She said, "oh yes!" The host then ended the call and moved to the next call.
A couple of calls later: another caller who rambled on about race ended up calling the earlier AA female caller a "lying 'n*****'. The C-SPAN host quickly ended the call.
No further attention was paid to these nasty comments.
While I don't have a verbatim transcript of what was said, I usually jot down notes of the Morning Journal and other shows.
I had barely jotted down the note about the AA (African American) who used the 'n*****' word this morning on C-SPAN barely 10 minutes into the show when the second caller had used the 'n*****' word.
I've heard the 'n*****' word most often said from one black person to another black person. I have heard a white person use the 'n*****' word and quickly be shot down with just a look. Blacks seems to be more tolerant of throwing the 'n*****' around. It's alot like talking about family: I can complain about my family, but YOU had better show respect when you makes comments about my mother. I've never known an educated black person to use the 'n*****' word in my presence.
Here's Nas on youtube using the 'n*****' word when criticizing Jesse Jackson's infamous comments about what he'd like to do to then-candidate Obama's reproductive organs.

I doubt that MLK ever used the 'n*****' word.
President Obama's election exposes both our nation's strenghts and weaknesses in regards to race. Today, on MLK day, I will be celebrating with my friends, a few of which actually had met MLK. It is an honor for me to be their friend.
On a brighter note, Edward Jackson, the senior architect for the Martin Luther King Memorial, to be located at the tidal basin across from the Lincoln Memorial, called in to C-SPAN to talk about the timeline for its instillation.
The statue is expected to arrive in D.C. by fall of this year, 2010 and to be installed in 2011. You can follow the progress of the project via this website.
