Ha! Ever wonder where that "Stick a curling iron up her butt?" remark at a Brown rally gets its origin? We'll talk more below...
This was also brought to our attention by this diary. Yet because of a controversial title, it didn't get the attention it deserves.
First of all, it centers on the findings of a Grand Jury, not from Coakley herself. However, Keith Windfield, a Somerville police officer, was charged with raping his 23-month-old neice with a hot curling iron. Hence, of course, the right wing hate machine.
See, this isn't about justice. Coakley won an indictment before a grand jury, and the man was released with no bail. Thereby, in the minds of republicans, she is "soft" on child abuse. Yet Robert L. Sheketoff - Winfield’s attorney in his appeal--has stated the reasoning for this:
"Bail isn't used as a means to keep someone locked up."
It isn't about justice for republicans. It's about avenues of attack. (think willie horton, please). Republicans want to bring out the basest and most angry emotions possible and pin a target on the back of their opponents and keep hammering through whisper campaigns until you hear some violent teabagger screaming about it at a ralley. The facts aren't important.
If any of you are running phone banks tonight for Coakley, please remember this lie and this line of attack. Because this attack isn't about character or justice or the poor little 23-month-old that was raped. As a matter of fact, it does that family a grave disservice to politicize a tragedy and placing blame where there is no cause to blame.
