I am not an established political wonk with a fine understanding of how all polls are conducted and the best current practices.
Yet time after time I am annoyed that the basic argument that many young (and old!) people don't have landlines is never addressed.
I have made about 20 calls to people in Massachusetts using OFA (sorry there weren't more, I've been busy). Just about everyone I called said they were voting for Coakley or lean Coakley. That's largely anecdotal, but I can't shake the feeling that THIS IS MASSACHUSETTS. How could all these liberal people suddenly magically decide Republicans are fan-fucking-tastic?
And then I pull up pollster and fivethirtyeight and I just can't believe my eyes how great Brown is doing. But then I think about how crazy these polls must be considering everyone I know only uses a cell phone and my head explodes. Don't polls not call cell phones? Didn't that help Obama in the general? Where's the analysis of that? Why don't these polls and Nate Silver bring that up?
Who should we be trusting here?
And do you know what's great? NO EXIT POLLS! We'll never know what the fuck happened today!
Sorry, just experiencing Brown/Coakley derangement syndrome. I say it's Coakley too because Coakley seems like a boooring candidate who I would hire on the spot if it were just a job interview, but would never expect her to put on the kind of show and dance necessary to get you elected statewide anywhere. She's just not a motivating politician.
A lot of short diaries today just letting off steam. I expect a lot more if this election goes the way it's looking...
