For the past few months, a group of netroots people have been meeting every last Friday of the month to confront the concentration of Health Insurance, or "Murder By Spreadsheet" companies, in the Warner Center area of Woodland Hills, CA. We called the monthly protests Single Payer Happy Hour. We are the longest-running continuous (except for December) protest against the for-profit Health Insurance scam in California.
We came to the attention of the California OneCare organization, which is the grassroots advocacy organization that has been promoting first SB 840 (Kuehl), and now SB 810 (Leno) in the California Legislature. We are now joining with them and continuing our series of events, now re-christened OneCare Happy Hour.
Follow me over the flip for more info.
What we need are people to come join us at the corner of Topanga Canyon Blvd. and Califa Avenue from 5 to 6:30pm on Friday, January 29th, bring signs and flags, and hang out for a little while and show the people who are getting off work that not everyone is going to sit idly by while the Insurance Industry kills a national solution for health care reform. Here in California, we do not follow, we LEAD.
Luckily tomorrow looks like it will be rain-free. However, it's going to get a little cold, so bundle up as the sun goes down. This makes up for the times in the Summer where we have to deal with Valley heat.
After the protest, we usually repair to TGI Friday's for some grub and some drinks. After all, it is happy hour, right?
This protest will be particularly sweet for us, because not only has the California OneCare organization taken us under their wing, but also we will be celebrating SB 810 passing the State Senate, as it has two other times. It's now off to the Assembly...Californians, please find out who your State Assemblyperson is and CALL. Let them know how much SB 810 means to you, and how much you believe it will mean for our poor, beleaguered state. Let them know that single payer health care is stimulus, and let them know that this will be a boon for keeping and attracting business in our State, and keeping film and TV production here too.
Come join us! This really is fun, and a great way of reaffirming your commitment to a just health care system, where Everyone is In, and Nobody's Out.
