Remember Honduras, everybody? An impoverished Central American country where the elected President had the temerity to challenge the oligarchy and the corporate interests running sweatshops?
Remember how the Americans were the only country to accept an election run by the military coup? One of the only countries to keep its ambassador (a Bush appointee) in Honduras after the coup?
Remember how Senator DeMint flew down to advocate for the coup and how Lanny Davis' PR firm worked for the coup?
Well, here's what happened:
'More Terror' in Honduras, as Another Unionist Murdered
Kari Lydersen, In These Times, February 8
http://inthesetimes.com/...
"The body of 29-year-old Vanessa Yamileth Zepeda, still dressed in her nurse's scrubs and killed by a bullet, turned up in the Loarque neighborhood of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, on February 4. Zepeda had young children and was a leader of the SITRAIHSS labor union (Workers Union for the Honduran Social Security Institute). She had been abducted that afternoon while leaving a union meeting." (go to link for more).
When I read these words, so help me, my rage at Lanny Davis, at DeMint,
at the incompetence and/or lack of conscience of the Clinton State Department and the Obama Administration, went right into my gut.
Please Kossacks, let's not abandon these brave organizers who have struggled to make changes in their country.
Pressure must be put on our government to at least demand that the Honduran paramilitary be put under control. Contact "Hillary" or "Barack" or John Kerry, who Chairs Foreign Relations.''
And thank you.
