Are these funny? Why are there so many of them?
I have always thought that cartoons give real insight in to what people are thing and feeling about various issues. I do think there is a real conversation about how human activity contributes to climate change and what if anything we can do about it-- but, isn't it going to be hard to have the conversation if people think that the local day to day weather is giving them important information about climate change?
Does the fact that there are so many cartoons say anything about how many people view this issue? I think it does.
And it's not just cartoonists playing the issue in this way:
Certainly that's what the Virginia state Republican Party thinks: the GOP aired an ad last weekend that attacked two Democratic members of Congress for supporting the 2009 carbon-cap-and-trade bill, using the recent storms to cast doubt on global warming.

The fact that day-to-day weather can change people's minds about this issue means that a lot of people have a poor understanding of global warming.
