Sorry for the non-political diary, but I am getting sick and tired of the media acting like the east coast is the only game in town. They treat the rest of the country as an afterthought. I speak of course about the <snark>all important topic</snark> of NBC's Winter Olympic coverage.
The Winter Olympics are being held in the Pacific Time zone so you would think that maybe the people on the west coast might finally get some LIVE coverage, but you would be wrong. The east coast gets some events live, but the west coasts gets re-broadcasts. Wake up NBC. The SF Bay area always has one of the highest percentage of viewers for the Olympics, why not throw us a bone and some live coverage?
I know the answer of course, NBC will do anything to maximize the ratings and ad revenue, but they've got so many channels now that they could show the live feeds on something like USA, Bravo or MSNBC and let the re-broadcast be on the flagship NBC station. I know, then they've got the affiliates upset with them, don't they? Ughhh, why does EVERY SINGLE THING IN THIS COUNTRY HAVE TO BE SO DIFFICULT??
Why do corporations and capitalism have to ruin even things like the Olympics? Why can't even the escapist entertainment of watching athletic competition and rooting for your country to get some medals have to become entangled with the all encompassing reach of large corporations? Heck, even the SuperBowl has been co-opted by the corporations and their multi-million dollar ads.
