"Get over it"
Excuse me?
After all we've been through, who is any Democratic Congressman to come in here and tell this community to "Get over it"?
I'm sorry, Mr. Hodes, but I believe you owe us an apology for your stunningly poor choice of words. After reading your diary, I think I get what you thought you were trying to say, but the phrase "Get over it" connotes the exact opposite tone from what you should have said.
"Get ON with it" is what you should have written, IMHO.
The members of the Daily Kos community proudly and rightly see ourselves as the Democratic base. We are the people who write the letters, make the phone calls, take to the streets, write the checks, and cast our votes that put the Democratic President and Congressional majority in office. And after having seen the results of of all that struggle come to fruition in what basically amounts to a betrayal by our so-called "representatives", we don't particularly care to be told to "Get over it". "Get over" what, exactly, Mr. Hodes? And how? "Get over it" is what the Republicans told us to do when the right-wing SCOTUS stopped the vote counts in 2000 and handed the White House to Bush. When someone tells me to "get over" something, what they usually mean is, "Sit down and shut up"
I say, "NO"
I will not sit down and shut up as I see the people I voted for ignore my interests and cater to those of the corporations and their mega-wealthy owners.
I will not sit down and shut up while the "Democrats" we did so much to put in office piss away their political capital on "bipartisanship" with people who want nothing more than for us to fail.
I will not sit down and shut up as our majority continues to behave as not just a minority, but a pathetically weak minority at that.
I will not sit down and shut up as single-payer health care is taken off the table in an odious bait-and-switch that trades the public option for a mandate that forces already strapped citizens to purchase for-profit insurance from the very same health care deniers who made reform so vitally necessary in the first place.
I will not sit down and shut up as war crimes go uninvestigated and their perpetrators go untried and unpunished.
I will not sit down and shut up as my unemployment benefits are taxed so that the government can bail out the billionaires who crashed the economy and made me unemployed in the first place.
Shall I go on? I've got alllllll day......
In short, Mr. Hodes, I think I get what you were probably trying to say, but, with all due respect, you could probably not have made a worse choice of words with which to say it.
Please feel free to come back and try again. But whatever you do, don't tell us to "Get over" the massive failure of elected Democrats to do right by those of us who worked so hard to get you elected in the first place.
