Most of you are familiar with the junior senator from the great Commonwealth of Virginia, Mark R. Warner (D). Many are familiar with the Republican he so thoroughly crushed, that the GOP carried only six localities in that race: former governor Jim Gilmore (R). Everyone knew Gilmore was going to lose, despite having been governor and being on a short list of then-Gov. George W. Bush's potential running mates. In fact, Gilmore was such a bad candidate that he won the nomination by only 70 votes out of 10,378 cast.
The man he almost lost the Republican nomination to? Del. Bob Marshall of Manassas. Today, Marshall is a leading member of the Republican majority in Virginia's House of Delegates. He has now proven himself one of the most despicable as well.
RICHMOND. State Delegate Bob Marshall of Manassas says disabled children are God's punishment to women who have aborted their first pregnancy.
He made that statement Thursday at a press conference to oppose state funding for Planned Parenthood.
"The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children," said Marshall, a Republican.
"In the Old Testament, the first born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord. There's a special punishment Christians would suggest."

You read that right: God punishes women who have abortions with disabled children. I'm not a Christian, myself, but I have a hard time seeing that in any kind of liturgy.
Will Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) condemn this? A better question: will the Republicans who jumped on Rahm Emmanuel for his ill-advised "retarded" comment be similarly vociferous? Any word from Sarah Palin? I wouldn't count on it...because it's OK, if you're a Republican.
