I thought it might be global warming or peak oil...
But I'm getting the feeling that we'll be sitting around the camp-fire without electricity in a couple of years blaming it on the Senate completely ceasing to function. Then the Constitution failed to work at all? We had no nation.
npr:
On the floor of the Senate, Republican Jim Bunning of Kentucky just defended the position he's taken that has delayed an extension of jobless benefits for the nation's unemployed and has forced the furlough of about 2,000 federal workers....
And, he [Sen. Bunning] added, if the Democratic majority and many Republicans want to force action on the legislation, they should use the Senate rules to override his objection.
Real people are really suffering because of this. Almost half a million Americans are immediately at risk of not getting their unemployment check they depend on to feed their families, and that number is likely to swell to millions soon if the Senate delays.
Many Senators are whining that ONE SENATOR (Bunning) is tragically victimizing millions of Americans. But there were always jerks in the Senate. Remember Jesse Helms?? We got the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964 with many of his type, though 1964 was prior to his election to the Senate.
So isn't it time to shout publicly that perhaps "Leader" Reid is inept. I think we should consider new leadership before we find ourselves with no country left. It is the job of a leader to get things done. But he seems always completely defeated any time ONE Senator disagrees or is paid to disagree.
Is there any Democratic Senator who is willing to perform the job of Majority Leader and get things done? It does not appear to me that Sen. Reid is willing to.
