Does anyone actually think Stupak is negotiating in good faith? Pelosi must know better that Stupak isn't really for reform and I pray she's looking for other members to switch votes. He's just using abortion as a "real reason" to oppose the health care bill, while publicly feigning support for "health care reform" more generally.
Sound familiar? (Read: Olympia Snowe, Republicans @ Bipartisan Summit)
And we know what that got us...
This is the same guy, who back in Dec. 09, was emailing back and forth with Mitch McConnell, trying to find ways to kill the Senate bill.
As documented by Politicoat the time:
An aide to Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) coordinated opposition to the Senate health bill’s abortion compromise this morning with the Republican Senate leadership, according to a chain of frantic emails obtained this morning by POLITICO.
The emails suggest a previously unseen degree of coordination between the offices of Stupak and McConnell. Stupak is the leader of a group of pro-life Democrats who say they’ll oppose the sweeping legislation if it uses government money to pay for abortion, while McConnell is firmly committed to killing the legislation.
Negotiating with this hack will render the same result as Max Baucus' futile attempts to woo Chuck Grassley, Mike Enzi, and Snowe.
Even with ABCNEWS fact-checking Stupak's crazy and saying his claims are false,
ABC News found that one of Rep. Bart Stupak's (D-Mich.) biggest contentions in his fight against health care reform legislation -- that federal money will go to "directly subsidize abortions" -- is not true in all cases.
does anyone think a man determined to bring down the most significant piece of legislation since the Great Society will be swayed? Does anyone think that a guy scheming with Mitch McConnell of all people is going to help his own party's cause or cares about the 31 million extra americans that this bill will cover?
So very sad. He needs to be primary-ed for being the attention-seeking political hack that he is.
