I have never in my life seen such a blatantly ignorant, cynical power grab as is being perpetrated by these 12 House members. It's like a game of 3-card monte in bizarro-land where all the dealers are fetus crusaders continually obsessed with hiding the fertilized egg under a Joker card.
Newsflash: Abortion is legal. It has been legal since 1973. Holding up the healthcare legislation on the basis of abortion is like holding it up because you want to deny coverage for treatment of alcohol addiction where an insured person is subsidized or somehow uses public funds to assist with coverage.
Let's evaluate the winners and the losers here:
WINNERS
Zygotes
Sarah Palin
Wingnuts
James Dobson
Tom DeLay
Etc.
LOSERS
Anyone who:
- has a pre-existing condition
- is older
- is riskier
- is uninsured
- who has insurance whose cost is increasing
- babies*
* From an excellent comment:
To the list of "losers" please add "babies" (0+ / 0-)
lack of health insurance leads to premature births. The US has a ridiculously high incidence of premature births, approximately 12.4% of all infants born, or almost 500,000 babies a year. So denying medical care to them when their moms are pregnant is having a direct impact on these real babies.
So on the winning side are bunches of cells and the small but vocal radical zygote defenders. On the losing side is... everyone else.
Seriously?? The fact that the leader of Stupak's crusaders also happens to have a penis just infuriates me to no end. No offense to the rest of you with penises - but the idea that Stupak or anyone else without girl parts thinks they are qualified to walk a mile in my shoes when it comes to the subject of pregnancy, my right to privacy, and dominion over my own body is offensive in the extreme and borderline psychopathic.
That is its OWN separate issue. You want to re-fight the abortion fight? FINE. Go ahead and re-fight it. Partner up with the Dobson's of this world and take your shot at overturning (or seriously walking back) Roe v. Wade. But don't try to mix your pet issue (what - did your mother not love you or something?) into MY ability to afford healthcare. Don't use your megalomaniacal sense of certitude on this one issue stand in the way of helping to save the 45,000 people that will die each year for as long as the healthcare system remains the way it is.
Go lecture your daughters and your wife, pal. Because ABORTION IS LEGAL and is no excuse - espeically for a Democrat - to completely and utterly fuck up any chance at some semblance of reforms that at least point us marginally in the right fucking direction.
What. The. Fuck. Is. Wrong. With. You.
Call these motherfuckers. Every day - every hour if you can. I've programmed them into my cell phone. I have a loooong commute in a lot of traffic, and each one gets at least one phone call during that time.
