Congressman Scott Murphy (D-NY-20) sent a letter to constituents today in which he tries to explains his November vote against the House Health Care bill. Among his reasons--health care reforms will hurt big business, which in his part of the district means "medical device manufacturers and paper mills."
Many of us in the NY-20 worked to get Scott Murphy elected, and we were pleased to win that fight in this traditionally Republican district in the Hudson Valley. Since then, though, Murphy has consistently echoed the Republican line on Health Care, siding with big business interests--who made big contributions to his campaign--instead of the people in this mostly poor region.
The latest insult is an email sent today, which pays lip service to the need for health care reform, before it gets to the bottom line--Murphy's corporate underwriters. H.R. 3962 would "negatively impact two of our largest employers in the 20th district--medical device manufacturers and paper mills."
Anyone who voted for Scott Murphy with the expectation that he would make a difference in this current fight must be sorely disappointed. We need to let him know NOW that his vote to bring health care reform to the nation is a prerequisite for any support we show him in the future. In fact call him at his private extension in his office in Hudson and tell him so: (518) 828-3109, ext. 111.
