Let's take a brief look at Rush Limbaugh's speech given at the CPAC earlier this year. He helps us grasp a better understanding of what conservatism is to the conservatives. Unfortunately in his "first address to the nation," aired on Fox News and C-Span, he doesn't give the eclectic viewers who haven't made up their mind about which political parties to follow the full definition. So, I will try to specify what he means when he was explaining to the nation conservative ideals. Unfortunately, I have a softball game in 3 hours so won't have time to commentate on his declarations past about the first 800 seconds of his speech.

Let's start here, take these few quotes into consideration and then I'll help you understand what he and the conservative party really mean by it.

"When we look out over the United States of America, when we are anywhere, when we see a group of people, such as this or anywhere, we see Americans. We see human beings."
"We want every American to be the best he or she chooses to be. We recognize that we are all individuals. We love and revere our founding documents, the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. [Applause] We believe that the preamble to the Constitution contains an inarguable truth that we are all endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights, among them life. [Applause] Liberty, Freedom. [Applause] And the pursuit of happiness. [Applause] Those of you watching at home may wonder why this is being applauded. We conservatives think all three are under assault. [Applause] Thank you. Thank you."
"We don't want to tell anybody how to live. That's up to you. If you want to make the best of yourself, feel free. If you want to ruin your life, we'll try to stop it, but it's a waste. We look over the country as it is today, we see so much waste, human potential that's been destroyed by 50 years of a welfare state. By a failed war on poverty."

Now, take all this passionate talk about everyone in the room and in America being human beings, individuals, and Americans. He talks about how life, liberty, and freedom are under assault?
Who they really see as individuals who have the right to life, liberty, and freedom are, of course, only those who agree with conservative ideals.
They want you all to hold strong and fast to those rights to life, liberty, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness unless of course you...
* Smoke weed
* Are Gay
* Are Jews, Muslims, Hindu, etc.
Heterosexual conservatives are of course allowed to marry who they love, because they are not marrying into sin. Those who are attracted and "deceived" into falling in love with someone of the same sex are marrying into a life of sin so we cannot allow it! Those sins that the heterosexual couple committ during their marriage are less significant. They aren't sinning nearly as much! The pursuit of happiness for this group of people stops here where the conservatives say it stops. You are no longer an individual entitled to these rights, because you're different and make conservatives uncomfortable.
To Rush and Conservatives not agreeing to same-sex marriage, I want to remind you of the story of Jesus and the adulteress. The community was ready to stone the adulteress, as a custom, for the crimes she had committed. Jesus said, "You without sin, pick up that stone."
So, I will not stand beside you with a stone. I will reach out and embrace before I separate and condemn as will the rest of us who fundamentally disagree with you on this issue.
My favorite point Rush tries to make is when he states that they don't want to tell anybody how to live. Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Of course, they don't want to tell anybody how to live.
Besides the fact that they will not allow you to smoke unharmful substances from the earth, Besides the fact they won't let you marry who you love, Besides the fact that they'll encourage a Muslim to participate in a Christian prayer in school, Besides the fact they'll assume everyone aspires to become a millionaire and propose economic solutions accordingly, Besides the fact that they will only tell you that you are wrong if you don't agree with them..................
Besides all these people and more, they don't want to tell ANYBODY how to live.
Of course, at this point many conservative Christians probably think I'm in the wrong for saying these things about public prayer in school and gay marriage and what not. Some might say that what I'm saying isn't Christian, but I am a Christian.
I am a Christian who understands that God would rather us pray in our closets than in public in the first place. I am a Christian who wouldn't want my children forced to listen to their teachers teach from the Koran or the Torah, so I won't trespass on their beliefs.
He also of course has to mention the failed war on poverty, but neglects to mention the "successful" war on drugs his party encourages.
I am not ignorant to the fact that this speech Rush gave was more or less defining conservatism in an economic sense rather than a social sense, but I listened to this speech for about 10 minutes and had to share with you parts of his speech defining the conservative party that I do not agree with.
I do agree with some conservative ideals when it comes to the economy, not that my opinion matters or is any better than anyone else's, but am personally more concerned with people's personal freedoms, personal pursuits of happiness, and personal liberties. I am not affiliating myself with a party other than the conservative party either. My ideals are all across the board and can't necessarily parallel my beliefs and ideals with any one party.
I just wish the conservative party could say things like they don't want to tell people how to live or see people as individuals and really mean it. If you're a conservative whose personal pursuit of happiness is wealth, then I would understand that is what makes you happy and will understand where you are coming from when you propose laws calling for lower taxes and less regulation. We as Americans need more understanding across the board.
How are we ever going to advance if every 4-8 years a different party who has nothing in common with the previous party is in power? Each party will keep splitting this nation apart with their separate agendas and fanatics with their lies will bring us down
