I cannot understand the Democratic Leadership. I just can't. The Health Care debate is not happening in a vacuum. Surely these people read newspapers, watch television, and maybe even check out the Internet now and again. So they must know about the enormous amount of support there is for a public option. They must know how many people, desperately, want and need Health Care reform, that people are literally dying from a lack of health care, and from the abuses of the Health Insurance industry.
Yet they fail to act. President Obama fails to act. Is this cowardice? It can't be ignorance, given the amount of information they have at their disposal. All they have to do is look North, to Canada, where we have a truly functional health care system, to see the difference that makes to the lives of people. How it affects the way a nation can and does function.
I won't get into arguments as to the flaws in the Canadian health care system. As a sufferer from two chronic illnesses I know them intimately. Dealing with a bureaucracy is often painful. The fact is, despite it's flaws, the Canadian Health Care system works, while in America anarchy rules, people suffer and die needlessly.
Yet the debate goes on, and on, and on, about what should be done. They know what needs to be done. They must. Yet they fail to act. Are they cowards? Or fools? I truly want an answer to this question. So much has been written, spoken, and recorded about this debate. They must be aware of at least some of it. Still they consistently fail to act. I don't understand.
Politicians are people. People are human beings. If not on a political level, as humans beings, do they not want to to put a stop to the human suffering caused by the current system? I don't understand.
This is my first diary here. I hope people find it acceptable and useful.
