It has to be said. I am going to say it. Why are so many Christians telling the rest of us that Muslims in Afghanistan deserve to be killed? Why are so few progressives calling these people out on a strategy that is clearly religious bigotry?
For many of us who have been organizing against Bush's wars for years, we are familiar with the term "collateral damage." This is code and a euphemasm for the notion that the lives of innocent Muslims -- noncombatant men, women and children -- are less important than the political fortunes of America's Christian leadership and the supposed good that this leadership might do for an overwhelmingly Christian electorate.
Ever since I started hearing liberals talk about "winning" in Afghanistan, I was stunned not at the fact that those voices were so Christian but by the fact that they weren't being called out as such.
The Christian Liberals have the benefit of the microphone. Their voices are amplified while others are muffled. They don't acknowledge their PRIVILEGE (inherent in their religious backgrounds). It is sickening. Continuing Bush's wars will mean KILLING A DISPROPORTIONATE number of Muslim folks. That is a fact and these folks need to be called on that.
My thanks go to this diary.
