So I just finished watching President Obama's speech in Maine, and he had something to say about all of the "we're doomed!" poll numbers regarding Health Care Reform. Here's what he said in his prepared remarks:
So after I signed the bill, I looked up to see if there were any asteroids headed our way. I checked to see if any cracks had opened up in the ground. But you know what? It turned out to be a pretty nice day. Birds were chirping. Folks were strolling down the street. Nobody lost their doctor, or was forced into some government plan.
Then you have to love some of the pundits in Washington. Every day since I signed reform into law, there's another poll or headline that says "Nation still divided on health reform. No great surge in public support." Well, yeah. It's only been a week! Before we find out if people like health care reform maybe we should wait until it actually happens. Just a thought.
And there you have it. It was a total "Barack Obama is tired of your bullshit" remark, and I loved every second of it. He then went on to say that if the Washington Pundits were farmers, they'd probably plant a seed in the ground, and then come back the following day astonished to see that there was no plant there.
Of course, after watching the speech on CSPAN I made the mistake of turning to MSNBC (why, I don't know) Where David Schuster had on a female Republican who said President Obama was "rude" (she may have said "almost rude") for calling the Republicans out on their BS "repeal and replace" argument (she also seemed mad that he managed to find a few thousand people in Maine that loves President Obama). It's not in the prepared remarks, but President Obama acknowledged the new "repeal and replace" argument by saying that when he dug a little deeper it turned out their plan is to de-regulate the health insurance industry, and "we all know how that's gonna work" (or something like that, I can't remember the exact phrase).
David Schuster asked her if it was rude of Republicans to scare people about the bill and call it Armageddon, and of course the Republican said "no" (not a surprise there).
Here's what Politico has:
Obama singles out House Minority Leader John Boehner for predicting that "Armageddon" would strike when health care reform passed. As the crowd boos at Boehner's name, Obama chides them: "We don’t need to boo. I just want to give the facts."
He continues to mock GOP claims, saying "granny" wasn't killed and there was no "government takeover."
"You have to love some of the pundits in Washington," he says. "Every day since I signed the reform law, there’s another poll or headline that says, 'Nation still divided on health care reform.' 'Polls haven’t changed yet.' Well, yeah. It just happened last week! It’s only been a week."
As his supporters laugh, Obama continues to mock the news media: "Can you imagine if some of these reporters were working on a farm? You planted some seeds and they came out the next day and looked and – nothing happened! There's no crop! We’re going to starve! Oh no! It's a disaster!"
LMAO!!! I mean literally, I was LMAO.
Side Note: And I guess right now the MSM is freaking out over a USA Today poll in which 50% of the people say President Obama doesn't deserve a second term. Really? It's 2010. The election is in 2012. No one knows who the hell they will vote for in 2012. I bet in 2006 no one was expecting President Obama to be where he is today.
Hopefully video of Obama during the speech will be up soon, but he literally had me LOL'ing. See, it's stuff like this that makes the Republicans hate him so much, I don't think there's anyone else (who doesn't have a show on Comedy Central) who makes the Republcians look quite as stupid as he does, and he always does it with a smile which makes it hurt even more. LOL
Update [2010-4-1 16:34:39 by Muzikal203]: Oh yeah, and here's another funny part:
"You're free to call your president an idiot," Obama says. "That’s a wonderful thing." Recalling his ride to the expo center, Obama says he saw many supporters, but then "one guy" whose expression was, "ehhh."
"He saw me through the window, too, he’s like, "ehhh." I thought that’s, that’s a great thing about the country," Obama says.
and when he was doing the "ehhh" he had his thumbs down. LOL, again funny stuff!
