I am a Democratic activist in South Florida heavily involved in several local campaigns as well as our local chapter of Organizing for America. It seems that many Democrats in South Florida and across the country do not know that our nation's next special congressional election is taking place in just two weeks. On April 13th, Florida's 19th district will hold its special election to replace former Rep. Robert Wexler. While this is a heavily Democratic district, have we not learned our lesson from Massachusetts? This is a special election occurring at a very odd time of year, and many voters throughout the district are unaware that there is even an election going on.

That is why I am urging everyone to support Florida State Senator Ted Deutch, the Democratic nominee for Congress, as he goes head to head with Republican Ed Lynch on April 13th. Ed Lynch has been all over extreme right-wing websites like biggovernment.com touting this race as the nation's first referendum on health care. He promises that if he goes to Washington, he will lead the fight to repeal this "not-so-gradual government take over of the health insurance system" that "subverts our Constitution" and "is an offense against freedom loving Americans who want no part of government run health care." Ed Lynch also recently appeared on Fox News, BRAGGING that his donations have skyrocketed since health care was signed, and that he is pulling in Tea Party money from outside Florida.
Ted Deutch will be a great Democratic Congressman. In the Republican-dominated legislature, he passed the nation's first law divesting state funds from companies that support the regime in Sudan and Iran's nuclear weapons program. He also takes standing up to special interests very seriously, overtaking the tobacco lobby in Florida and passing a one-dollar cigarette tax. In the Ted for Congress campaign office, volunteers and staff are not taking this election for granted. We are making phone calls and putting up signs and doing everything we can to get out the vote. You can message me if you are interested in making some calls remotely - and if you are feeling especially generous, visit tedforcongress.com to make a contribution. As Ted recently said, let's stop this race from being a referendum on health care. Instead, lets make it an affirmation of health care reform and all policies that give Americans a fair shake. Thank you for not taking this race for granted - and to see Ted in action against his opponents, check out the video on Wall Street reform below!
