Just finished our taxes...and I have to say I'm a little disturbed. I've read other diaries saying how much more of a refund they got under our new Democratic administration....we got about $100 less. So a little disappointed. But what I find disturbing is the new schedules. It's simply placing more paper, more obstacles between people and their money.
Schedule L-you have to declare real estate taxes to have these as a part of the standard deduction. Not fair to the poorer folks who rent either as they can't fill out such taxes, but pay them anyhow with their rents. Back door tax?
Schedule M-Making Work Pay Credit. O.K., so you get more in your paycheck now. But you still owe Uncle Sam the same amount of $. So you will pay more tax or get less of a refund unless you fill out a new schedule. More paper, more obstacles between people and their money. Back door tax? The non-working poor are not affected. By and large, the middle class will get their taxes done by professionals or have the educational background to understand how to do them properly themselves. So the most affected would by the working poor. Especially in rural areas where educational systems are quite, well, not so good and there aren't exactly H & R Blocks on Main Street. At least on the EZ form it's a worksheet on the back instead of a schedule.
Due to the economy more and more people are filing their taxes themselves, and one of the more common errors the IRS is seeing is people failing to claim the Making Work Pay Credit.

Well, I don't like teabaggers, hate 'em. But maybe there's a reason they feel like their taxes have been raised. Technically, no-practically, perhaps.
What do you guys think? I am going to bed and will not be responding tonight to comments, but really want to hear your thoughts, as you are a bright and caring group. Thanks for listening.
