Many decades ago I was a high school and university amateur wrestler. That is what we did in Iowa.
Please, no Iowa jokes - they gave Obama his bump and they have the oldest 7-day bike tour in the nation - RAGBRAI.
But back to Fox and Pro wrestling.
I have a nephew (thank goodness, not biological but via my partner) who loved pro wrestling. Don’t get me wrong, he (withholding name) was (and is today) a real nice guy. But when he was 5 years old he wasn’t at the top of this game.
My problem with "Pro" wrestling is that it is entertainment - not sport. It is fake. Fake is OK but be honest about it - in the library fake stuff is filed under "fiction."
I digress, but I once attended a pro/fake wrestling meet. It was at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines, Iowa. A friend and his mother took me because they knew I was a high school wrestler. They were really into it - jumping up and down and screaming the entire night. I didn’t have the heart to tell them it was fake.
What does this have to do with Tea Party participants? I’ve been to Tea Parties and interviewed attendees. Like by friend and his mother, they don’t know it is fake.
I’m excusing my friend and his mother because this happened decades before the Internet. They did not have Google or Snopes.com.
But Tea Party folk have no excuses. Like Pro wrestling, FOX News is fake. FOX’s major Tea Party promoter, Glen Beck, acknowledges FOX News is "an entertainment company" and he "could give a flying crap about the political process."
Did I mention that my University has won the last two NCAA National Wrestling Championship tournaments? It was real - not fake.
