"If you're friends jumped off a bridge, would you?"
"No, but if God did, I would."
Last night, as I settled down from a long day of work and a great workout, I slipped in to my late night routine; one that ends with a talk with my boyfriend and catching up on daily Facebook happenings.
What I saw was this status by a 'friend':
President Obama has decided that there will no longer be a "National Day of Prayer" held in May. He doesn't want to offend anybody. Where was his concern about offending Christians last January when he allowed the Muslims to hold a day of prayer on the capitol grounds. As a Christian American "I am offended." if yo...u agree copy and paste this no matter what religion you are, this country was built on Freedom
Being a HUGE Obama fan, but also somewhat Christian depending on the day, I decided this needed some investigation and, as most of you know, I found this to be obviously false. This, however, is not what I'm writing here to tell you. I'm here to tell you about conservative 'Christians:' passionate about their beliefs, loyal to news sources like Fox, and uninformed in their views, choosing to simply regurgitate their favorite news source's talking points, in lieu of research and independently forming opinions.
This is the conversation that followed [Note: The other person's name has been changed]:
Annie Fiedler:
Not to be rude, but people pasting this aren't very informed...nowhere in the news can you find anything about Obama cancelling a day of prayer. National Day of Prayer is not cancelled and has never been cancelled since it's start.
Obama DID say he would not participate because he didn't want to offend other religions, but did not cancel. May 6th... See More continues to be the National Day of Prayer.
Also, Obama didn't organize Muslim Prayer Day on Sept.25 at the capitol. He DID allow the Muslims to prayer there, but only because it's a free country and the organizer of the Muslim event, Hassen Abdellah, and other Muslims have the right to pray there. Anybody is allowed to pray there.
Girl 1:
Guess i didnt have to inform myself...I had you to do it for me. Thanks.
Annie Fiedler:
haha i hope it didnt come off rude, ive just seen like 6 people set their status to this so i was curious and researched and when i found it wasnt true i was surprised so many people had posted it.
Girl 2:
This is a serious matter whether it may not completely be 100% factual. Christians are getting the boot so other "religions" can do whatever they want. We all have the right to express our own opinion. If muslims can hold a day of prayer at the capitol then so should the Christians. period!
Annie Fiedler:
Christians ARE allowed to hold a day of prayer at the capitol. Nobody's stopping them.
Girl 2:
In today's news... Note I said that it might not be completely 100% however etc etc.
"It's not a crisis of biblical proportions, but President Obama's plan to recognize the National Day of Prayer on Thursday with a paper proclamation, rather than a public event at the White House, is ruffling some religious feathers.
"We are disappointed in the lack of participation by the Obama administration," Shirley Dobson, chairwoman of the National Day of Prayer Committee, said in a statement. "At this time in our country's history, we would hope our president would recognize more fully the importance of prayer."... See More

I hear your point Annie, but why change a thing that has been established and has helped to hold our country together. We are falling apart. Its such a shame.
Annie Fiedler:
I'm just saying, you should notice it said "at the White House." So Christians won't be praying in the White House, but neither did the Muslims on their Day of prayer.
Christians can still pray on the capitol as their Muslim counterparts previously did...which is exactly how it should be, living in a country that stands for religious freedom and ... See Moreequality and all.
Also, Obama's a Christian and does believe in the importance of Christian prayer, he's just not PUBLICLY participating because he doesn't want to isolate the non-Christian traditions.
Annie Fiedler
Held our country together? The National Day of Prayer wasn't established until 50 years ago. Our country held together without the holiday for 200 years before that...
And the judge that made that ruling is not tied to the Obama administration, it just came from a random judge in Wisconsin. His decision doesn't affect you or the entire nation at all.
Girl 2:
I never said it came from Obama. I am just showing you the facts. The past presidents have observed this day of prayer for the past 50 years and I think its ridiculous that if Obama is a so called christian he can't observe the day of prayer like all the others who have. A chistian wouldn't be afraid of the results of their actions when they are standing up for their beliefs and God. If someone said deny God or die I'd say die.
Annie Fiedler:
You know most of the popular religions in the U.S. believe in the same God, right? (Protestants, Catholics, Muslims, Jews). So his choice to not publicly participate isn't about his being afraid to stand up for his God, because all but 2.3% of religious people in the U.S. believe in the same God Christians do.
He just doesn't want anybody to be ... See More isolated, which is good. In fact, it's MORE wrong that past presidents participated in the day considering A. The constitution says we should have a separation of Church and State and B. President's shouldn't be showing preference to one religion by participating in one day of prayer and not another.
