First Lady Michelle Obama on her first international trip as our nation's goodwill ambassador was a smashing success. Just as we do, they love her. (I'd almost compare it to the love Diana used to receive when she traveled abroad.)
The focus of her first solo, international trip was the young people of Mexico. Her passion for youth can be traced back in her days at Americorp, and is something she's carried with her to the White House, and now abroad.
The first stop of Mrs. Obama's two day trip was a tour of the National Museum of Anthropology, in Mexico City, with First Lady of Mexico, Margarita Zavala.

Here is a White House highlight of the tour (in Spanish):
After her tour of the museum, she went to visit a local elementary school. I love how this one article headline describes it:
Mexican schoolchildren squeal with delight at sight of Michelle Obama, put on a show for her

One group dressed as Aztecs in white paper costumes and caps with multicolored feathers performed a Mexican ritual dance. Another group did calisthenics for Mrs. Obama, whose cause at home is a campaign against childhood obesity. Other kids entertained with a lively twist-style dance, and they were followed by a chorus that serenaded her.
Mrs. Obama joined in at one point, clasping hands with a group that had formed a circle and singing along with students at the Escuela Siete de Enero, which is in one of Mexico City's poorer neighborhoods.
"That was beautiful, everything you did," said the first lady, whose two-day visit is her first ever to Mexico. "I loved the singing. I loved the dancing. I loved to see you all moving and exercising."
She said she loves "getting to see really smart, bright young people" when she leaves the U.S.
There was one small request, though. "Before I leave, I need some hugs," Mrs. Obama said. Wading into one of the groups, the tall first lady bent at the waist to embrace the kids.

Today, we’re seeing what has come to be called a ’youth bulge’ — an explosion of the youth population in nations around the world,” Obama said. “And the fact is that responsibility for meeting the defining challenges of our time will soon fall to all of you.

One of my country’s greatest Presidents, Abraham Lincoln, was born in a one-room log cabin in the woods. But was lucky enough to have a teacher who taught him how to write and debate. Then there’s Joan of Arc, a daughter of a peasant farmer, who tried to persuade anyone who would listen that she could rescue the French army from defeat. And when a prince finally believed her, that’s exactly what she did.
You see throughout our world history, it has so often been that unlikely hero, that unusual perspective, that improbable journey that has been the key to our progress. So when we dismiss any of our young people, when we fail to tap into their potential, we risk losing their promise.
You can view the entire awesome speech here.
The White House also provides a highlight clip of this event (but I highly recommend watching the entire event!!)
After her speech, Mrs. Obama sat down for an interview. Please pardon the ad.
Mrs. Obama spoke quite bluntly when asked about the Mexico's drug cartels.
I don’t think that there is a choice to give up. I think that you keep plotting away. And you look at other alternatives, investing in education and health care. Making sure that young people have opportunities beyond the drug trade. They need to have jobs to go to. They need to be able to go to college, and not go into debt. They need to know that there is a path for them that will lead to a stable, productive life. That is better than the alternative. And that’s an investment that we have to make in our young people all over the world.
Later that evening, Mrs. Obama was honored at a state dinner hosted by Mexico's First Lady. (And we will honor them at the Obama's second state dinner).

The last leg of Mrs. Obama's Mexico state trip was a sit down discussion with some of Mexico's young leaders and entrepreneurs. This was a conversation to find out exactly what these young leaders are doing to improve their country. She spoke to young leaders from both affluent and indigenous areas in Mexico.
