Last week the press was complaining (new right?) about President Obama ditching them after apparently neglecting to inform them via his secretary that he went to see a soccer game with his kids.
As a result of that, Robert Gibbs was forced to have a meeting with the press corp to "tone down" that anger.
Gibbs on background sourcing
During the meeting, Gibbs gave an offer to the press corps that was pretty damn startling.
He stated that he would END "off the record" sourcing to the Press corps, and while he stated this he offered a "but", they'll only do so if the Press Corps also eliminates background sourcing for ALL of their sources.
"I think we could all put what we want to say to the American people and to the news media all on the record," Gibbs said on CNN's "Reliable Sources." "I've offered to end it. But it's got to be a two-way street."
Somehow, I don't think that's going to happen, because the Press will always find critics who don't want to go on the record attacking the administration and others but if it did end, at least some measure of the media would be improved for the better.
