This is a video spot that I produced and co-wrote with the intention of making the repeal of "Don't Ask Don't Tell" a concrete issue for people who might otherwise consider it an abstraction. LGBT men and women give their lives every year in the service of their country. Ending "Don't Ask Don't Tell" is the least we can do to repay their service.
The spot was picked up and sponsored by GetEQUAL, an equal rights advocacy group founded by Robin McGehee and Kip Williams, the co-directors of last Fall's National Equality March on Washington. As part of their larger goal of demanding equal rights for the LGBT community, they have partnered with Lt. Dan Choi to carry out direct actions aimed at lighting a fire under the repeal of "Don't Ask Don't Tell."
Please help us get this message out.
Please pass this video on.
And if you have a minute, please sign up over at GetEQUAL's web site. It's still a work in progress, but will be blossoming shortly, when they roll out the expanded version.
People who are willing to die for their country deserve equal rights of citizenship.
Let's make sure they get them.
