Republican governor of Virginia, Bob McDonnell, earned notoriety recently for rescinding the Commonwealth's anti-discrimination policy toward gay, lesbian, and transgendered citizens established by former Governor Tim Kaine. His attorney general, Ken Cucinnelli, also took the unprecedented step of issuing a directive to the Commonwealth's colleges and universities, demanding they not enforce their anti-discrimination clauses either. After an outcry from student groups, the governor issued a "directive" declaring that discrimination against gays and lesbians violates Virginia's constitution but declined to establish this protection as law, like his Democratic predecessor had.
This week, McDonnell's former brother-in-law, a transgender woman named Robin Deane, spoke out against discrimination and pointed the finger squarely at McDonnell. Deane is the father to three of Gov. McDonnell's nieces and nephews as well as uncle to five of McDonnell's children, reports Towleroad.com.
