Well, I'm relieved to finally have
this suspicion confirmed:
God talks directly with Glenn Beck:
"Will you pick up the mantle left to you by the Founders to be a guardian of man’s freedom? Will you do it? Because your children will ask you, 'What did you do?' I believe your God will ask you, 'What did you do?' . . . God is giving a plan, I think, to me that is not really a plan . . . The problem is that I think the plan that the Lord would have us follow is hard for people to understand . . . - boy are they gonna use this against me - . . . The plan that He would have me articulate, I think, to you is, 'Get behind me.' And I don’t mean me, I mean Him. 'Get behind Me. Stand behind Me.' "

And so it all becomes clear: as God's chosen messenger on Earth, Glenn Beck is destined to be persecuted by Those Who Do Not Understand - a demographic that seems to be growing. (And, of course, as God's chosen messenger on earth, Beck joins an elite club whose alumni include David Koresh, Jim Jones and Marshall Applewhite, among others.)
Was Beck projecting when he gave voice to his fever dream -
"We surround them."
Did he, in fact, know damn well that he and his crazed cult of racist, fearful, selfish hatemongers - the most marginal of the margins - were actually the ones who were surrounded, by the vast majority of Americans, all of whom have at least a nodding acquaintance with Reality?
And - is that perhaps exactly the way he wants it?
Might it be that nothing would please Beck more than to meet a spectacular end, to go out in what his twisted mind believes would be a literal blaze of glory, à la Koresh?
Is Beck trying to set himself up as a martyr? Is he trying to marginalize himself and his followers into oblivion?
Well, when he stokes his apocalyptic pyres with talk like this -
Progressivism "is the poison that's killing our Constitution"; "it must be corrected"; "we've got to irradiate it"; "we must burn this out of the American system"
"Progressives . . . will destroy our nation"
Progressives are "a virus feeding on the host of the Republic"
"[Progressivism] is the disease in America"; "Progressivism is the cancer in America and it is eating our Constitution"
"People will confuse the truth with hate"; "We're gonna die" if America doesn't take Beck's "radical treatment"
America is "on the eve of destruction" and "will be destroyed . . . if we don't turn our ways"
"What is ahead may loosen the bonds of society," and may end with "a French Revolution"
Beck jokes about poisoning Nancy Pelosi
- it's hardly surprising that his fellow travelers out on the lunatic fringe of
Glennbeckistan spout their own insane Armageddon-tinged wet dreams:
[I]t's gonna get nasty. Nancy Pelosi’s going to be bobbing up and down in the Boston Harbor. -- Bill O'Reilly
We hunt liberal, tree-hugging Democrats, although it does seem like a waste of good ammunition. -- Rep. Gregg Harper, R-MS
"I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax because we need to fight back. Thomas Jefferson told us, having a revolution every now and then is a good thing, and the people — we the people — are going to have to fight back hard if we’re not going to lose our country." -- Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-MN
"[T]he Catholics will run him out of town. He may be a dead man. He can’t go home to the West Side of Cincinnati." -- House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-OH, on Rep. Steve Driehaus, D-OH
"I think if we’d abolished the IRS back when I first advocated it, he wouldn’t have a target for his airplane." -- Rep. Steve King (R-IA), when asked whether he thought the suicide plane crash into the Austin IRS building was motivated by anti-tax rhetoric
Pat Boone: Needed: A tenting of the White House
All manner of parasites, vermin, roaches, rats, worms and termites find their way into the building.
What can be done, when you learn that your house has already been invaded?
Well, the tried and true remedy is tenting.
Experts come in, actually envelope the whole dwelling in a giant tent – and send a very powerful fumigant, lethal to the varmints and unwelcome creatures, into every nook and cranny of the house. Done thoroughly, every last destructive insect or rodent is sent to varmint hell – and in a day or two, the grand house is habitable again.
I believe – figuratively, but in a very real way – we need to tent the White House!
. . . the most lethal antidote to would-be tyrants and usurpers.
"To all modern Sons of Liberty: THIS is your time. Break their windows. Break them NOW . . . So, if you wish to send a message that Pelosi and her party [that they] cannot fail to hear, break their windows," Vanderboegh wrote on the blog, Sipsey Street Irregulars. "Break them NOW. Break them and run to break again. Break them under cover of night. Break them in broad daylight. Break them and await arrest in willful, principled civil disobedience. Break them with rocks. Break them with slingshots. Break them with baseball bats. But BREAK THEM . . . "
However, he said [armed confrontation] might be justified if people face arrest for refusing to buy insurance under the health care reform package recently passed by Congress.
"If I know I'm not going to get a fair trial in federal court . . . I at least have the right to an unfair gunfight," Mr. Vanderboegh said.
The message is clear: Tyrants and bullies can be dealt with, even if it’s at the “business end” of a firearm.
Although the federal government is monitoring a number of known militia groups, these groups are not a threat to the government. The current threat to the federal government is the average American who realizes the federal threat to his personal freedoms and to his children’s freedoms and financial solvency. Americans are furious. They are not just angry. Moreover, many realize it may take the forceable removal of the Obama administration, as well as its direct and tacit supporters on both sides of the aisle, to restore our freedoms and sanity to Washington. Therefore, what follows is a “potential” scenario, which in no way should be construed as advocating an armed revolt against the federal government . . .
Conceivably, within the first days of an armed revolt, numerous politicians, Obama hacks, federal judges, and media members would be killed . . .
"As long as we have the Second Amendment, then that is what keeps our government dealing with us. That’s what gives us the right to freedom of speech, that’s what gives us the right – freedom to assemble – because our government knows, the bottom line is, that we are armed citizenry." -- Ed Napolitano, as head of Southeast Republican Club of Broward County (Fla.)
The government is afraid of the guns people have because they have to have control of the people at all times. Once you take away the guns, you can do anything to the people. You give them an inch and they take a mile. I believe we are slowly turning into a socialist government. The government is continually growing bigger and more powerful, and the people need to prepare to defend themselves against government control . . .
I reached the decision to go on the offensive - to put a check on government abuse of power, where others had failed in stopping the federal juggernaut running amok. -- Timothy McVeigh
[ -- oops, that last one just slipped in there somehow. Hmmm - somehow it seemed to fit perfectly, though, don'cha think? - o.h.]
When Beck acolytes, sycophants and wannabes put their hands on the radio and start spouting wet dreams about gassing people and making Kristallnacht 2010: The Reunion!, it's clear that they have lost all connection with reality and will believe literally anything. I mean, really: does anyone with a lick of sense have any illusions about how a confrontation between even the most heavily armed members of a (no doubt!) well-regulated militia and any random branch of the active U.S. military would turn out?
So whenever shysters like Beck stoke the fires of such fanatics, they must know what the inevitable outcome will be, right?
And thus one could hardly be blamed for being led to only one conclusion: that Beck and his ilk want desperately to meet a fate similar to Koresh's, or Jim Jones's, or Davy Crockett's (remember how Beck called Fox News "the Alamo for truth"?).
Update [2010-4-24 13:18:37 by occams hatchet]: Our resident Fox-pert, KingOneEye, links in the comments to his excellent post, The Gospel According to Beck, in which KOE wades through hours and hours of effluence and distills Teh Craaaaazy down to a breathtaking, essential bucketful, all of which speaks to Beck's martyr delusions. Among the gems:
3:6:1) I fear that there will come a time when I cannot say things that I am currently saying. I fear that it will come to television and to radio, and I will stop saying these things.
3:6:2) Understand me clearly. Hear me now. If I ever stop saying these things, you will know why.
3:6:3) Because I will have made a choice that I can only say certain things, and I haven’t lost all of the rights. But know that these things are true.
3:6:4) And if you hear me stop saying these things, it’s because I can no longer say them to you. But hear them between the sentences. Hear them, please. I will be screaming them to you.
and
THE FLOOD
1:1) I want to announce a change, and maybe it’s just a change in me. But a change in me means a change to the program. So I don’t know exactly what it means yet
1:2) I was thinking this weekend that if Noah were here, if he was around today, there would come a point where he would just stop trying to convince people, “Hey guys it’s gonna rain an awful lot.” He’d probably say, “You want to help, fine. You don’t want to help, fine. I’ve got to go and build the Ark”
1:3) The last few weeks I have this feeling - I just know it - you get it. I don’t need to convince you. If you’re here every night I don’t need to convince you that there are people intentionally destroying our country. Both on the right and the left.
1:4) The rain is coming. I think you feel it in your gut. It is time to build an Ark. It is time to prepare yourself for some tough times.
1:5) In the coming months I’m changing. I’m sensing you are too. I think you know it’s time to build an ark, because the rain is COMING.
DESTRUCTION
2:1) You’re gonna see a black and white world, man, that is nothing but destruction and ugly.
2:2) I don’t know why no one else will tell you the truth about these things. I don’t know and I don’t care. All I I know is they are all there. Embedded in each one of these bills, in plain sight.
