Balance.... A "Welcome" mat and a "Please Ring Door Bell" sign. There is room and a need for both. I keep hearing " The immigrants entering from our southern border with Mexico should get in line". Exactly where does the line form ? During the periods of mass immigration into New York City the the Statue of Liberty was the welcome mat and Ellis Island was were the line formed. I understand how violated I would feel while in my back yard having a picnic a group of 5 or 6 uninvited guest just passed though. Even though they are just a part of huddled masses yearning to be free, I'm sure I would not like it. Solutions anyone ? (Besides replicating the Great Wall of China or rounding up all the ones that have a nice tan.)
There needs to be Ellis Island style Land Entry Ports in Arizona California and Texas large enough form the lines sift though the stream of those wanting to migrate into The U.S. (or leave). Anyone failing to come though the designated ports shall be subject to the Laws of the United States for port entry. If we need to build another Statue of Liberty in each location, the point will be made... . Come to the Big Lady and wait your turn in line...let's do it. I don't agree with Arizona's new state law, its impractical however I do applaud their throwing down the gauntlet to bring this issue to the forefront it's overdue. I believe that with the leadership of our President and a Congress that is motivated to earn the money we are paying them or face replacement we can get it done.
(P.S. If the Republicans decide to sit on their hands again like they did on health care they will be voted out.... because the people are really paying attention now.)
