On the heels of the xenophobic Arizona SB 1070, many other states are hearing arguments from white Republican politicians to change the laws of their states to match Arizona. I live in Texas and this idea is starting to roll through the reactionary right-wing candidates looking to pander to their redneck base. I am declaring right now that I will not allow this to happen in Texas, and that I will do everything within my power to make sure that these people do not bring their unconstitutional, racist agenda (any more than they already do) to my state.
The leader of the charge is Rep. Debbie Riddle from Tomball, a small town just north of Houston. She has stated that she will push for the law in the January legislative session.
"The first priority for any elected official is to make sure that the safety and security of Texans is well-established," said Riddle, who introduced a similar measure in 2009 that didn't get out of committee. "If our federal government did their job, then Arizona wouldn't have to take this action, and neither would Texas."
Here is a link to Rep. Riddle’s website contact page. Send her a message about what you think of her trampling of the constitution.
Rep. Debbie Riddle (R-Tomball)
The bottom line is that these people would rather violate the 4th Amendment of the Constitution (for brown people only, of course) than to arrest and fine the business owners who knowingly hire undocumented workers.
I am a veteran, and I will not be asked to show my papers to prove that I am a citizen. I will not be harassed or profiled. This entire process reeks of an intimidation campaign towards Hispanic people and I will not be intimidated. I will not be treated as a second-class citizen because I might physically resemble an undocumented worker.
Texans who respect the constitution (not you Tea Party fools who don’t know anything about the Constitution except for the 2nd Amendment) and Hispanic leaders need to organize now to fight this incredibly offensive and illegal law from ever seeing the light of day in Texas.
I am going to start my campaign against it this week. More to follow on how you can support this cause.
