New York is getting the national attention for a bomb that did not explode, and the Gulf oil spill is the secondary story. Meanwhile, Middle Tennesse is devastated.
It is difficult to imagine anything closer to an "inland hurricane." The only real difference is that the wind damage is more sporadic.

The National Weather Service is reporting a two-day rain total in Nashville of 13.7 inches. The previous record was 6.8 inches, so the new record is almost double. Where I live, in Franklin, Tennessee, we got far more rain than Nashville. The official count is not in, but I expect we got about 20 inches of rain in 36 hours. My house is high and dry, but within a few blocks houses I would never have imagined are in several feet of water.

This is a place where most people refuse to accept the facts about climate change, yet we have just tripled the all-time record for rainfall on two consecutive days. It is time for help and clean-up now, but when that is finished, I wonder if we can have a serious conversation about why outrageous weather events are happening regularly.
