Middle Tennessean here, one of the lucky ones who fared well during this weekends record setting floods. Local and national volunteers have stepped up and helped rescue, shelter, and save our last water treatment plant. The possibility of a water shortage is the current concern along with the thousands who are now without a home, cars and businesses. As of right now 20 some odd counties have been declared disaster areas with the remaining of the 52 counties expected to be declared disaster areas in the next few days. The Red Cross, Salvation Army and Second Harvest Food Bank are going to need a lot of help to take care of people across Middle Tennessee. This effected everyone and many don’t have flood insurance due to it never flooding here in the region.
Our local NBC affiliate organized a telethon to help the 3 organizations mentioned above. Local celebrities have stepped to the plate despite they themselves being effected by the floods. Any little bit will help and we are lucky to have a group of stars like Taylor Swift from the area who just donated $500,000 and Ke$ha who flew in and took care of animals who are being held for owners who are now without houses. She dropped off an enormous amount of food for our cities animals. To watch the telethon you can jump on WSMV.com and watch the live stream or if you are lucky enough CNN and the Weather Channel will carry parts of it tonight. I believe the telethon will run until 11pm CST. FYI, our Second Harvest Food Bank recieved damage with the flood and still can't get into their Nashville warehouse to rescue what is left in the facility. They need our help.
