The biggest ecological disater to ever happen is enfolding on us. For the last couple of weeks my moods have been shifting from deep sadness for those who live in the gulf, the sea life, and birds, to anger at BP for its inaction or ineffective action in handling this crisis, to helplessness as I see the power oil has over our daily lives, economy, and governments. Apathy is just not acceptable, and action is necessary. The Obama Administration seems to just be paying lip service to the offshore drilling issue, we must make ourselves be heard as America will never be the same again after this disaster, as it was after 911.
A National Day of Action, May 14th

Once again the fossil fuel industry has brought crisis to the Gulf
Coast. Devastation of untold proportions spews non-stop from BP’s oil
well as politicians try to save face with empty promises, and oil
companies preserve their profits with PR campaigns. This catastrophic
spill comes on the heals of Obama's plan to expand offshore drilling.
The price of burning fossil fuels is too high. From combustion to
extraction the oil industry poisons our communities, destroys
ecosystems, and destabilizes the climate. Now is the time to stop
offshore drilling dead in its tracks and drive another nail into the
fossil fuel industries coffin.
Take action Friday, May 14 to demand:
-An immediate ban on all offshore drilling
-A rapid and just transition away from fossil fuels
-NO bailouts for the oil industry. All recovery costs must be paid for
by BP, Halliburton, Transocean and other implicated companies.
-The Federal Government must remove any caps on liability for oil companies.
-BP provides full compensation for impacted communities and small
businesses.
BP provides full funding for longterm ecosystem restoration for impacted
areas.
-Oil companies operating in the Gulf fully fund restoration of coastal
ecosystems damaged by their pre-spill activities.
Take action at:
-BP gas stations and offices
-Halliburton and Transocean offices
-Federal buildings
-Offices of members of Congress
-State government officials in states affected by Obama’s offshore
drilling proposal.
-Critical Mass bike rides
-Vigils to mourn the unspeakable loss brought by this spill

Host a Clean It Up Event Between May 6th & the 16th!
Our leaders need to know that America stands with our families on the Gulf Coast. That we want BP's oil spill cleaned up quickly, and that BP should be held accountable.
We'll be holding rallies across the nation calling on President Obama and Congress to stand strong with the Gulf Coast.
You can donte hair to help make hairmats. Contact your local salon to send in hair. Sadly I have heard the hair is not being used in this clean up, even though it is available and ready. Perhaps more pressure to use the hair will help.
