While a lot has been discussed and diaried here at dkos about President Obama and his policies (attracting both flowers and brickbats), one key aspect that seems to have been missed (at least by me) is the role the women play in his admin.
With the latest addition of SG Elena Kagan to the post of SC Justice (fingers crossed and all that), I found the following women at key positions that wield considerable power and influence.
- Sonia Sotomayor - Supreme Court Justice
- Hillary Rodham Clinton - Secretary of State
- Janet Napolitano - Secretary of Homeland Security
- Kathleen Sebelius - Secretary of Health and Human Services
- Hilda L. Solis - Secretary of Labor
- Regina Benjamin - Surgeon General
- Melody C. Barnes - Director of the Domestic Policy Council
- Carol Browner - White House Coordinator of Energy and Climate Policy
- Lisa P. Jackson - Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency
- Valerie Jarrett - Senior Adviser
- Dawn Johnsen - Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel
- Sara Manzano-Diaz (nominated) - Director of the Women's Bureau, Department of Labor
- Karen Gordon Mills - Administor, Small Business Administration
- Susan E. Rice - U.N. Ambassador
- Christina D. Romer - Chairwoman of the Council of Economic Advisers
- Mary L. Schapiro - Chairwomen of the Securities and Exchange Commission
- Nancy Sutley - Chairwoman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality
- Ellen Moran - Communications Director (since resigned)

Phew... That's quite an impressive & diverse list. And that is just the key senior positions. I don't know how many women work in less visible positions. And I am not sure whether any other president had so many women were working with him in such powerful positions.
I think women make better managers and they meld very well with his no-drama-obama philosophy.
Just thought I would highlight this important aspect of Obama admin.
