Not that most DK'ers pay regular attention, but yours truly, King Loser on DK, has been running a regular quarterly poll of losers for said given quarter, a series within a series. However, given events this week, not to mention 3CM's intellectual laziness, the opportunity to put up a poll proved to be the easiest option for an SNLC this week, especially given the plethora of "candidates". I could probably go back and find a past Loser of the Week SNLC with the same title, different #, but am too lazy to do that now, being a loser, of course. So you can vote below, and read on, or not, or perhaps critique 3CM's selections below the flip....
Most of the options require no explanation, especially given this past Tuesday, but at least one requires some, namely, the Texas school students. Obviously the wingnut majority of the Texas Board of Education is a collective loser for their historically ill-informed biases, but guess what: the wingnut majority won, for reasons that citizen k summarized here. Texas school students, not to mention students in other states, will be inculcated with that ignorance down the line, with ramifications none of us can calculate, and thus will be the losers, not of their own choice. The Texas Board of Education's actions remind of the line from George Bernard Shaw's "Maxims for Revolutionists" from Man and Superman:
"The vilest abortionist is he who attempts to mould a child’s character."
Likewise, one might ask why Rand Paul is missing from the list. The answer is simple: Rand Paul won his primary. The fact that he is a dangerous fool, just as ignorant as the wingnut TX Board of Education cabal, does not matter in the simple context of winning vs. losing at a particular endeavor. Plus, it is entirely possible that he could still win the KY Senate seat this November. One hopes not, and if he keeps shooting his mouth off, RP losing in November becomes more of a possibility. But remember that all he needs is a majority of KY votes, not a majority of smart KY votes. citizen k's comment in the diary applies just as much to the KY-Sen election and Rand Paul:
"People need to stop reflexive complaints about the backwards nature of America and start understanding that if you don't show up, you lose."
So now it's your turn, to:
(a) comment on the poll selections
(b) add your own ideas in the comments if you voted "Other", or
(c) observe the required SNLC SOP, namely sharing your loser stories of the week.
The last is the only one that's really "obligatory", besides voting in the poll, of course. 3CM so craves external validation :) .
