It really helps having a boyfriend who's a political junkie, too. He gets ideas from me, and I from him. Today, while reading stuff on Media Matters, he turned to me and said, "You've gotta blog about this. This is totally you."
Now, he says that often, and he's usually wrong, but whatever. :P
Five minutes later, I'm listening to an audio clip he's playing for me, mouth both agape and on the floor, thinking to myself, "Fuck Rush Limbaugh and his guest hosts!"
In addition, I would like to point out that Dr. Walter E. Williams, said guest host, is black. (Thank you, Michael Steele!) Wtf.
There are so very many disturbing things that Williams said that I'm almost at a loss as to where to begin. But, given the recent Rand Paul turmoil and the pathetic Republican racist underpinings (shocker, I realize), I thought I'd change it up a bit and concentrate on some truly disgusting things Dr. Williams spewed about both women and children.
Also, he's a total asshole. Just so we're clear.
Check this shit out:
TRANSCRIPT
WILLIAMS: Let's welcome John from Orangeville, California.
JOHN: Dr. Williams! How the heck are ya?
WILLIAMS: OK!
JOHN: Very good timing. My, uh, wife just came in and made my lunch after she was mowing the yard, so, uh ...
WILLIAMS: OK, good, good. You have her, you have her, you have her under control.
JOHN: Absolutely, absolutely.
WILLIAMS: I guess you've learned a lot of things from me.
JOHN: I've been listening to you for a long time. She does a lot more chores now than she used to, so I appreciate that.
WILLIAMS: OK, yeah right. And I believe in keeping wives under control.
JOHN: You're a good man, you're a good man.
WILLIAMS: OK.
I KNOW!
Just wait until you hear the child labor crap. It's simply bitchen. Even the caller is aghast! (I'm still aghast, but I think that just makes me naive and kinda gullible. And liberal. And stuff.)
TRANSCRIPT
WILLIAMS: When foreigners are raising money for, for various deals, ya know private, or uh, public, uh, spirited events, where do you think they come to raise money?
CALLER: Here. Of course.
WILLIAMS: They come here! Yeah! They don't get it from Sweden or in Germany, because what the people say, in Germany, say, "Look, I pay taxes, I'm not gonna give you anything".
CALLER: But, I mean, I understand ideally, but like what I'm saying about, uh, certain insurances you have to have, I think people should be proven to have it. I, I also believe that ...
WILLIAMS: Well, absolutely, yeah.
CALLER: We don't want it, like, we don't want child pornography, obviously, we don't want child labor, so we do have to regulate. That's part of what makes this country great.
WILLIAMS: Well, why, why don't you want child labor?
CALLER (shocked): I ... I want my kids to go to school and get an education ...
WILLIAMS: Ohhhh.
CALLER: I don't want them to have to work to support my family ...
WILLIAMS: But suppose the family is four, but, but suppose the family is poor and they need the money.
CALLER (pause): But then they're gonna be uneducated, Walter.
WILLIAMS: Well, that, well well, it's, it's better to be uneducated than starved to death.
CALLER: Well ... we're not gonna agree on that. I think that's part of what made our country great is that we do have some regulation ...
WILLIAMS: Well, well, child labor laws that protect kids, that used to protect kids from working in mines, now, they, they now protect them to work, from working in air-conditioned offices. The same laws.
Listen, I don't know about you guys, but my freaking 9-year-old is a slacker. I AM JUST SICK OF IT! She needs to get a job pronto! Little Shiz could do anything to ruin her childhood and, thusly, her life! She could become a prostitute or a drug dealer, or work in the janitorial field, fer chrissakes. Why isn't she out doing this right now?!
And, as far as I go, I'll defer to MinistryOfTruth for any questions that you may have for me. Because women aren't all that smart, aren't all that capable, and certainly are not good enough to answer questions by themselves. I need to be controlled, you see, to be kept in line, to be a Stepford Wife. To not rock the boat, to not raise my voice, to not be myself. Clearly, I am self-hating and not worth it!
Or am I talking about Dr. Williams here? Hmm ...
Let's do some background research, shall we?
Walter E. Williams is, supposedly, a libertarian. Which always amuses the fuck out of me, when "libertarians" argue against governmental interference, but (in the same breath) insist that they should be able to control women and, thus, women's bodies.
Sorta like Rand Paul! Yay!
Anyway.
Of course, the man is also a complete nutjob:
Williams supports legalization of selling one's own bodily organs on the grounds that it increases the supply of organs for transplant. He also makes the libertarian argument that the true proof of whether or not an individual owns something is whether or not he/she has the right to sell it. If selling organs is illegal, he says, then, consequently, individuals do not own their own bodies.
Huh. That gives a whole new meaning to the term "organ donor", now doesn't it?
And he absolutely loves his own people:
Williams is an outspoken champion of black education and private school vouchers, indicting the public education system, as perpetrating "a fraud against African-American students and families by lowered standards." He is also a critic of the minimum wage and affirmative action, believing that both practices are detrimental to both blacks and liberty. Williams especially emphasizes his belief that racism and the legacy of slavery in the United States are overemphasized as problems faced by the black community and do not adequately explain the situation blacks face today.
Right. Like I said, the dude's an asshole.
Dr. Williams seems to me, at least, to be rather heartless. Take what he said about HCR (HIR), for example:
For Congress to guarantee a right to health care, or any other good or service, whether a person can afford it or not, it must diminish someone else's rights, namely their rights to their earnings. The reason is that Congress has no resources of its very own. Moreover, there is no Santa Claus, Easter Bunny or Tooth Fairy giving them those resources. The fact that government has no resources of its very own forces one to recognize that in order for government to give one American citizen a dollar, it must first, through intimidation, threats and coercion, confiscate that dollar from some other American. If one person has a right to something he did not earn, of necessity it requires that another person not have a right to something that he did earn.
To argue that people have a right that imposes obligations on another is an absurd concept. A better term for new-fangled rights to health care, decent housing and food is wishes. If we called them wishes, I would be in agreement with most other Americans for I, too, wish that everyone had adequate health care, decent housing and nutritious meals. However, if we called them human wishes, instead of human rights, there would be confusion and cognitive dissonance. The average American would cringe at the thought of government punishing one person because he refused to be pressed into making someone else's wish come true.
Total sweetie. Clearly, "empathy" is his middle name.
So Williams doesn't like women (or kids, for that matter), but he's a libertarian. And yet, he's completely placid in regulating abortion and keeping women "under control". Williams is similarly fine with throwing kids under the bus, making sure they miss their childhoods (and livelihoods), all based on some insane belief that kids need to give up their right to a decent childhood in order to help (or serve) their family.
Bull. fucking. shit.
As someone who's been poor for a number of years now, I can honestly say that I would never ask my daughter to provide for me. Never. Never ever. Because I didn't have a superb childhood, it is absolutely imperative to me that SHE have a superb childhood.
And, thanks much Dr. Williams, but I refuse to submit to any man. I absolutely fucking refuse, goddamnit! It's not your right to tell me how to feel or what to think or what to do, nor is it MoT's, or any other dude's. I will not stand for that shit, and women like me do not need controlling ... We need empowerment.
I guess you can think whatever the hell you want about healthcare reform, and affirmative action, and whatever, but you'd (most likely) be wrong.
And that's because you're an asshole. Deal.
