Srsly.
In this day of almost near-constant outrage, of regularly thinking that George Orwell is rolling over in his grave so frequently that the poor man can't have any peace, of massive stupidity and outright racism from most mainstream Republicans (not to mention the teabaggers), I bring you this outrageous gift of the OMGWTFBBQLOL! variety:
L. Brent Bozell III, right-wing scion and president of the conservative "media watchdog" group the Media Research Center, wrote a column today in TownHall to express his absolute outrage at the television show "Glee" for promoting a "homosexual lifestyle." Bozell, whose "think-tank" is funded by foundation money from David and Julie Koch of the oil conglomerate Koch Industries and ExxonMobil, among other corporate sources, denounced the show for portraying opponents of homosexuality as "vicious school bullies." Bozell lamented the fact that that Glee’s homophobes were "two brutish football players" who "threatened to pummel the openly gay and riotously effeminate character Kurt for dressing up like a girl:"
(Bozell's statement below the break)
"Bill O’Reilly recently hosted a "culture warriors" segment at Fox News where both "warriors" agreed that homosexuality is morally acceptable. That same no-debate mentality has been a regular drumbeat on the Fox television series "Glee," a musical drama/comedy about a high school glee club in Lima, Ohio. [...] The only characters on the show disapproving of homosexuality are vicious school bullies. In the May 25 episode, two brutish football players threatened to pummel the openly gay and riotously effeminate character Kurt for dressing up like a girl. Everyone else in this series approves, endorses or participates in the homosexual lifestyle."
OK, Bozell, let's get this straight: you're pissed off that the TV show Glee, which happens to be one of my two favorites (just behind SYTYCD), does not make its homophobic characters ... accessible enough?!
So, huh. What exactly is "accessible homophobia", eh? Is that like being "a wee bit racist"? Or "slightly sexist"? Also, can I ever be "a little pregnant"?
Let's look at this logically. Perhaps accessible homophobia (hey! good band name!) encompasses one or several of the following:
- Thinking gays are going to hell, but still liking that one dude Tim, who tutored you in math;
- Hating all gays, but being totally addicted to lesbian porn;
- Believing gays should be able to kiss each other if they want, but not in front of you, because your eyes will bleed and then fall right out;
- Wondering aloud if gay marriage will affect your straight one, because
what if they move in next door and they're really hot and you can't stop repressing your homoerotic thoughts anymore? they'll "indoctrinate" the children?;
- Explaining to me what this "homosexual agenda" encompasses, aside from equality.
Ya know who might agree with Brent Bozell? Sue Sylvester.
Ya know who doesn't agree with Brent Bozell? Kurt Hummel's dad.
That clip always makes me tear up a bit.
Screw you, Bozell. You're just pissed that gays are all acceptable and shit these days. Which is, of course, as it should be.
HA!
