No matter how objectionable, are we free to speak our minds without fear of retribution? In my opinion, no.
Why? because any one of us, who speaks or even misspeaks can lose our livliehoods. Just like Helen Thomas.
Helen Thomas "retired" according to a Press release from Hearst Corp. So, say goodbye to perhaps the last real White House Press Correspondent.
Helen Thomas' career passed away today at 12:31 EDT after a catastrophic deluge of false outrage. The career, had a long and distinguished life spanning the White House from JFK to Barack Hussein Obama. Long a thorn in the side of those Presidents intent on keeping the American people in the dark on matters of State that concerned them, it suffered a glancing, yet fatal wound while exercising its Constitutional right to free expression in a a semi-public setting during an interview with rabbilive.com, which turns out to be a FOXNews fanboi site. While the whole of the Right will rejoice, there are also those on the Left who today are dancing on its grave.
It is also odd, that Gibbs had felt it necessary to state that the remarks were not those of the White House, imputing a power to Thomas she never had. The ADL has stated her apology is not enough. What more do they want? Her execution for blasphemy?
Now, to cut the trollish discussion off: The former host of that radio show should have lost his job - his commentary is part of the running hate speech that regularly regurgitates itself on FOX radio/tv. In fact, he should be removed from his City council position since he is not capable of serving the entire city of Prescott, AZ. There is a difference in polluting airwaves with deliberate provocative speech, and simply speaking without thinking.
UPDATE: The "Rabbi" has decided to post the FULL INTERVIEW with Helen Thomas, and pull a rather bigoted video of him making fun of Mexicans. Thank you to mediaite.com for saving it Can you say "O'Keefe'd"?
