I know I'm not all that and a bag of chips, and I don't think I'm super special or super smart or whatever, but I do have passion and a willingness to learn. I'd like to attend Netroots Nation this year, and I've applied for a DFA scholarship.
You can vote for me here.
I'm supposed to be, like, trumpeting myself and explaining to you why I deserve a scholarship, but keep the jokes to a minimum and I'll tell you why I think I'm kinda cool. And before you start blathering on about how I use "I" too much in my sentences, please remember that this is a scholarship competition and I'm supposed to, like, compete.
Geez.
SOME RELATIVELY COOL THINGS ABOUT SHIZ
June 15, 2010
by Shiz
- I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong. Not all the time, and I know I have blind spots, but I'm pretty good about this.
- I'd say I have a fairly strong sense of snark and/or humor.
- My writing doesn't suck. Examples of me not sucking can be found here and here and here and here and here. And that's only from April 'til now. :)
- I think I'm on my way towards becoming an investigative journalist, as I think that everyone who knows me can attest to the fact that I should never, ever work in politics. Let's just say that it would be bad for everyone if I did that.
- Uhm. I'm dating MinistryOfTruth. :) (Hey, I'm not completely above name-dropping.)
- I really am willing to learn. I think it's vitally important to become as educated about certain subjects as you can, and then specialize in those areas. I believe it's better to be well-rounded about a few important issues and then spend your time advocating for those. My core topics are sexism, homophobia, religion, and Republicans. I also have been known to write a wicked rant or two.
- I am my own editor. I am proud to say that I rarely make grammar errors, but I try not to police others. (I don't always succeed. Heh.)
- I got nothin'. Just trying to get to 10 here, people.
- My literary heroes are Mark Morford, Heather Armstrong, digby, Matt Taibbi, and Marcy Wheeler.
- I'm never, ever going to shut up.
Again, the link to vote for me is here. I do believe you have to be signed up with DFA first before you can vote, though.
Thanks for listening/voting/whatever!
