I was surprised and pleased that the CBS evening news just committed journalism. In their lead story (link opens the video) on the economy they reported that the economy is not fixing itself, that the economy will only get worse when 3.2M people come off of unemployment insurance, and that the Senate is to blame for not passing this even though it's been on the calendar for a month.
They pretty clearly put the onus on the Republicans, though did do some "he-said/she-said" giving McConnell a few seconds to complain that the bill "wasn't paid for."
But the real kicker was at the end of the report they actually pointed out that:
- Senators are on vacation for 10 days, during which 375K people a week will lose UI
- Senators make $174,000 /yr.
3. Senators have paid for health insurance for life. edit for accuracy.
- Senators life-time health and pension benefits.
Pretty nice way to end the report!
(obligatory "Wow, the rec list", thanks everyone)
(Update) The above linked story to the politics doesn't have the kicker about senatorial salary and benefits, you can find that here: at about 5:25.
