According to new polls out in the last few days, DEMS are falling behind in the all important generical congressional ballot and President Obama's approval ratings are now routinely upside down...more disapprove than approve.
Being the "reality based" community that we are, I think we need to seriously discuss the challenges the DEMS face in turning these numbers around to avoid a catastrophic election in November.
The latest Generic Ballot polls from Gallup, FOX News and Democracy Corp (D) all show one things...The GOP has gained an advantage. Gallup has the numbers 46% - 44% GOP amongst registered voters, FOX has it 42% - 40% GOP amongst registered voters and Democracy Corp has it alarmingly at 48% - 42% GOP amongst the more important likely voters.
President Obama's numbers are taking a very real dive in light of the poor jobs numbers and the continuing Gulf Oil Spill Crisis. According to Everyone's favorite pollster Rasmussen Obama is at 45% - 54% approve/disapprove, while Gallup Daily has Obama at his worst rating yet with 44% - 48% approve / disapprove. Democracry Corp has him fading with a 45% - 51% approve / disapprove rating.
Numbers like these come October would predict a massive GOP wave that would likely flip control of the US House. Can you imagine...Speaker Boehner?!?!? The US Senate would also be in serious danger of flipping in this very real scenario.
The question for Democrats and progressives is what can be done in the next four months by the Obama Administration and the Democratic Leadership in Congress to turn this ship around.
My initial quick thought is Obama has to regain his footing and the Democratic base has to wake up. I would love to see a good discussion below of how we get things back on track and save Democratic majorities in this fall's elections.
