Snookered? Were you hoodwinked, bamboozled, led astray, run amok? I’m sorry Mr. Jealous I saw Malcolm X and not only are you not a Malcolm X you aren’t even a Denzel Washington or a Spike Lee.
In fact I wish you were at least a Spike Lee because I’m confident that Spike Lee’s default position is in support of non white people when they are unjustly attacked. When they are attacked by Fox News the media arm the entire world and as much as the universe as has been covered by the speed of light since it leaked its foul signal into the firmament does it the first thing he wouldn’t do is help them defame another Black person.
Ben you were not snookered what you are irredeemably ill prepared for prime time and for that you are not worthy to lead the venerable institution that is the NAACP.
Certainly you had to know that when the NAACP rightly called out the forces of racism within the right wing they would mount a furious reaction. If you didn’t know that before passing the resolution the actions of Mark Williams and the reaction of Sarah Palin or the reaction of their media arm America’s Radio Rwanda certainly should have given you a clue. Did you miss it? They said there are no racist in the Tea Party and the NAACP are the racist. THEY TOLD YOU WHAT THEY WERE GOING TO DO. Surely you had ample evidence of their ability to produce completely fictitious YouTube videos and get it packaged for distribution. As you’ve said during your many media appearances the NAACP researched tea party racism. Were you asleep when the same outfit destroyed ACORN?
The initial reactions of the NAACP to the totally fraudulent Breitbart/ America’s Radio Rwanda production of the Shirley Sherrod story A PERSON SPEAKING AT ONE OF YOUR EVENTS were a disgrace. Shirley Sherrod is an example of the people that the NAACP was created to protect from injustice. I would expect to turn to the NAACP should that happen to me, it’s why I send my little funky dues every year. There needs to be an organization to protect non white people from the systemic racism that this country to this day suffers from. That this Black lady didn’t even get the benefit of the doubt or the courtesy of the organization viewing its own film before slandering her before the world as a racist, and costing her a vital position in the administration is not acceptable. This reaction must have more of a reckoning then an apology.
When the NAACP passed it’s resolution it called for battle. This battle isn’t new; it’s one that generations of Americans of all colors has fought against the pernicious effects of racism. A new generation is ready to do battle again against an increasingly smaller foe. What we can’t allow in this battle hopefully our last big one is a general who frags our own troops.
I understand Shirley Sherrod has accepted your personal apology, however I don’t recall seeing any press releases or any mention in the many media appearences you have made regarding an apology to your membership for this horrible performance. If you were to make such an apology I could accept it with the grace that Ms. Sherrod has, but it comes with the same consequences Ms. Sherrod has had to suffer loss of job.
