This will be a short diary, as it is an action diary.
Please sign Bernie Sanders's excellent petition in support of Elizabeth Warren as director of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection.
Senator Bernie Sanders, a man whom I greatly respect and value, has written a letter to President Obama, in which he strongly advocates for the appointment of Elizabeth Warren as head of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection.
Sanders urged President Obama to pick Harvard Professor and leading consumer advocate Elizabeth Warren to be the first director of a new financial consumer protection bureau. In a letter sent to the White House on Monday, Sanders wrote that "at a time when doubts about Wall Street and its practices run very deep ... American consumers need a federal government that is looking after their best interests." Conceived by Warren, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau may have more direct impact on ordinary Americans than any other provision in the Wall Street reform bill. Along with a budget of about $500 million, the financial reform law gives the new bureau the power to write and enforce rules for mortgages, credit cards, student loans and debt collection.

We can add volume to the strength of Sen. Sanders' letter of recommendation by signing his very well-worded
Petition in Support of Elizabeth Warren as Director of Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection
Whereas:
* Doubts about Wall Street and its practices are extremely deep;
* Many Americans believe that we have not acted as aggressively and rapidly as we might have in limiting Wall Street recklessness and greed;
* American consumers need a federal government that is looking after their best interests;
* The creation of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection was a good first step; and,
* The establishment of this agency is not enough.
And, whereas:
* We need a strong director of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection;
* We need a director who will put consumers first, one who is not afraid to take on big banks and financial institutions if and when they seek profits at the expense of consumers; and,
* We need a director who will help convince the many millions of Americans who currently do not trust government that we are serious in standing up to Wall Street and providing the consumer protection they need.
Now, therefore:
* We call on President Obama to appoint Professor Elizabeth Warren to become the first Director of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection;
* We know that Professor Warren has a proven track-record as a smart and tough consumer advocate;
* We know that Professor Warren is a champion of open, honest and responsive government; and,
* We believe no one in our nation could do a better job as director of this new agency.

Elizabeth Warren has been a strong, consistent voice for consumers and the middle class, and imo deserves all the support that we can give her.
Bernie Sanders has also been a strong, consistent voice for consumers and the middle class and I, for one, am happy to add my voice to his in calling for the appointment of Elizabeth Warren as director of the BCFP.
These good people are fighting for us - let's stand by them and fight by their side!
edit: In response to divineorder's comments(thank you, divineorder), I have added the full text of the petition to the diary, as I feel it illustrates well the manner in which we can constructively "push" the Obama Administration in the right direction, ie. it is respectful, thoughtful, detailed, and informed.
