I've been sad and pissed this week about the ADL's absurd opposition to the Cordoba Community Center Project. I've always had a love/hate relationship with the ADL; frustrated at their knee-jerk response to every issue involving Israel but deeply respectful of their civil rights stances. But enough about them. The ADL is done. The shark has been jumped.
But this diary is about true leaders of liberal Judaism: Rabbi Eric Yoffie, President of the Union for Reform Judaism, and Rabbi David Saperstein, Director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism.
we affirm our abiding commitment to the principle of religious freedom that ensures that houses of worship not be subject to discrimination and to the principle of religious equality that ensures the right of the Muslim community to locate and build its houses of worship like Jewish, Christian or other houses of worship.
This is what true leaders do. This is what liberal Jews in the United States are about.
As a Reform Jew I am as proud of my leadership today as I was pissed at the ADL last week.
I know this is too short a diary. But my pride runneth over.
