I must apologize at the outset for the tennor of Diary but sometimes the news from the right wing of this nation beggars belief.
Recently, I read in the internet news that in Virginia or some place like that that is increasingly seceding from America and its values, there is a building fury over the fact that a nun was run over and killed by a drunken driver who was "here illegally". Apparently the killing of a nun by a drunken citizen is not so serious. Nor is the death of more that 50,000 Americans in automobile accidents many caused by drunken drivers cause for similar outrage.
Is someone who is "here illegally" an "illegal alien" or was it someone who overstayed their student or tourist visa? In fact, the drunk was brought here to America when he was a young child. He went to American schools and apparently is fully acclimated to American culture. In other words he is as a American as you or I only he is without papers. He has a job and is not someone sucking off the great american tit. He is an alcoholic like all too many Americans and needs treatment.
His behavior warrants deportation not because he is "here illegally" but because it is probably the harshest punishment available for his crime.
Unfortunately, it appears that in this case his greatest crime was not that he ran over and killed someone in a drunken stupor. His great crime appears to be that he is of Latin American heritage and here illegally. Were he a Canadian, or Russian or Irish or some other breeding ground of violence and rapacity like that and without papers would there have been such an uproar?
Imagine if you will, that the driver had been an Arab stoned on hashish and on his way to blow up something. We would have a to-fer an illegal alien and a terrorist. We could have a trifecta if he also was working on the ground zero Mosque. Wouldn't that be wonderful, then we could blame it all on Hussein Obama?
That they would use the tragic death of someone dedicated to helping others for political gain is shameful. How dare they use this tragedy, this death of a nun to sow the seed of hatred and bigotry.
