I think thats a good question. Most of us probably wouldn't be. We are the Mr. Moore's of the Democratic Party, we are never satisfied; but I can tell you that having a cabinet with Dennis Kucinich, Elizabeth Warren, Alan Grayson and Andrew Weiner replacing Rahm, Geitner, Holder, and Salazar might make me happier with where we as a party are going.
I give Obama all due respect for what he has accomplished. If he hadn't made his victory over the forces of evil something so magically Pandorian and raised out expectations to infinity we might have been like Gibbs and Blackwater Dog, focused on Lily Leadbetter, healthcare, nuclear non proliferation, economic reforms and not the fact that they could have been a little less watered down.
For those who demand that in the sequels Obama immediately come out as a born again progessive in order to lead the Democratic Party where it needs to go, fix the economy now, save our our homes and jobs, extend unemployment, I suggest Elizabeth Warren is a step in the right direction.
For those who say purge the Regent U Bush stay behinds from his executive departments and the military, embrace transparency, get rid of the Patriot Act, the Detainee Treatment Act, the Military Commissions Act, the Warrentless Wiretaping FISA, Data Mining, National Security letters, all 84,000 new hires in the 3,000 some odd new intelligence agencies, fire Xe instead of more predator drones, prosecute Halliburton for war crimes, stop with the indefinite detention, assassinations and get the hell away from the corrupt Karzai regime even if it means turning the country over to the Taliban in 2011 that would be a good next step.
First we have to win the upcoming elections. The choice between Democrats and Republicans is pretty clear, its like choosing between success and failure. Thats not a hard choice for me.
I have no problem imagining alternative energy, climate change, financial regulation, environmental protection and an end to our out of control military spending in order to save social security, medicare, medicaid education and other social programs could be in the cards in what remains of the first term. Didn't I just hear something about Pell grants?
One of the things that bothers me as I am sure it bothers Gibbs, is that much of what Obama is doing is happening quietly behind the scenes beneath the MSM's radar. If you are a minority and don't think your situation has inproved in the last year due to Obamas supreme court picks, it might be time to put your ear to the ground and see if you can't hear the quaking and the shaking among the haves and have mores who now realise that yes there is going to be a redistribution of wealth and privledge, power and opportunity in this country.
I can't fault Gibbs for calling for the professional pundtitry to cool their jets a little, the best offense is a good defense and right now we need to be about winning an election not turning our base back into couch potatoes that think it doesn't matter if we lose the House and the Senate because even the Democratic politicians are totally corrupt and in the pockets of our corporations and special interests.
Sometimes you don't win the hand, you lose the battle, have to punt when you could have been in the end zone, get a bad break and watch the springs fly out of the rebuild you are doing and scatter across the floor. We all sometimes experience what should have been the thrill of victory turned into the agony of defeat.
Its when you are getting hammered and beaten that you need to be strong, patient and persevere. Go find the missing pieces, sweep them up and put them back in; tinker a little here and tweak it a little there, this administration has everything it needs to roar back to life.
