And lo, the paranoia and xenophobia grew thick and sticky....
And then there was Gohmert:
Barking Madness doesn't often come this ripe - savor it my children, for it may be the seeds of our electoral salvation in November.
Gohmert: You bring a retired FBI agent, former supervisor, who says "We had no credible report (about Terrorist attempting to have their babies born in the U.S. and become citizens - Anchor Baby Sleepers) that this was going on? I brought it to the attention of America for this reason...
(Crosstalk)
Cooper: Did you bring it to the attention of the FBI?
Gohmert: That's what I was talking to a retired FBI agent about, and so having talking to him - no, I didn't talk to them because when we did the research we found the hole existed.
Cooper: Wait wait.. what research? Can you tell us what research?
Gohmert: You're Attacking the Messenger! Anderson you're better than this. You used to be good, you used to find that there was problem and go after it.
Cooper: I'm just asking you for evidence of something you said on the floor of the house...
Gohmert: And you listened... If you would spend as much time looking the problem as going after me this week...
Cooper: I'm giving you an opportunity to present any evidence, if you have any evidence... what research and evidence you have, you've offered none, other than yelling...
Yeah, it was like that. After this Gohmert goes on to quote an apparent Website Post to prove his case....
Gohmert: Tony said, that people from his neighborhood go across the border to have a baby, and they have an American Passport.
Oh well, geez, I didn't know you were talking about Tony - why didn't you say so?
Even then what he was talking about weren't illegal aliens, it was people visiting the U.S. as Tourists -- so now we're going to talk about revoking the citizenship of children who were born here by parents who absolutely abided by the law!
What. The. Frankenfurter?
Oh by the way, the U.S. Supreme Court already decided in United States v. Wong Kim Ark that children of immigrants, even tourists, are indeed U.S. citizens under the 14th Amendment over 100 years ago.
