Hi everyone, Will Easton here from CREDO Mobile.
I wanted to let you all know about a partnership we've set up with flipswap.com to recycle your old mobile phones and turn them into donations for progressive nonprofit groups.
Basically, the way it works is this:
- You visit the flipswap site and tell them about the phone(s) you have to donate.
- Flipswap tells you what they're worth -- and you get to choose whether you want a check sent to you, or want to donate those funds to the 50 great progressive nonprofits that CREDO funds.
- You print out the prepaid shipping label and send the handsets in -- that's it!
The great thing here is that Flipswap is NOT one of those outfits that ships your phone overseas to be melted down by child labor under toxic working conditions. They're a responsible company and are committed to "zero e-waste" policies; read more about their recycling practices here. (They also plant a tree for every phone sent in.)
A strong commitment to keeping electronic waste out of landfills is just one small part of CREDO's green policies. (Another piece, just announced today, is our campaign to stop California Proposition 23; click here to contribute on ActBlue and get a free "Stop Texas Oil; Hell No on Prop 23" bumpersticker.)
So I hope you'll all go check in that junk drawer, and clean out all those phones (and accessories, chargers etc.) you've been accumulating -- and send them in to be responsibly recycled. Seriously -- you're never going to use them again, so why hold on to them?
(And if you are going to send phones in, please post a short comment to that effect below -- for everyone who commits to recycling a phone, there are cookies involved for yours truly.)
Many thanks!!
- Will
