Well, it is now pretty damned evident why the Florida Republican Party decided on primary day to cancel their unity rally. The vanquished gubernatorial candidate, state Attorney General Bill McCollum, is "reserving judgment" on who he will support in November:
It is pretty hard, seeing this video, seeing an opening by which McCollum and Scott will find a way to make common cause. The question now, of course, is where McCollum's voters go. Remember that Tom Jensen noted this just last month:
Just how divisive has this Republican primary gotten? Among people planning to vote for Bill McCollum, Scott's favorability is 4% with 62% viewing him unfavorably.
Given how late the Florida primary is scheduled, how much rehabilitation with McCollum supporters will Scott be able to enjoy before November?
Especially when Alex Sink, the Democratic nominee, plans on making the very Medicare fraud issue McCollum expressed reservations about a central issue all the way through the election.
Despite the amenable climate for Republicans, here is a high-profile Republican that is in deep, deep trouble.
