Governor Pataki this morning on Morning Joe advocated a review of the government pension system to eliminate wastes.
This led me to think that the governor should start by forgoing all pensions piad to him by either the federal or state government. Also I think Dems should call out all repubs who want to cut social security and other pension schemes.
Any politician who is retired like Alan Simpson and wants to cut social security or pension benefits should not only forgo their government pensions and social security, they should pay back whatever they have been paid already.
If the politician is still in office (John McCain), they should pledge to forgo all federal benefits, including health, pension and social security when they leave office. People like John McCain, John Boehner and Sarah Palin can definitely do without social security. I am definitely sure that if all republican politicians do these, we may reduce the budget deficit by a few millions.
If I was a democrat running for office, my question to my opponents will be "if you are going to cut the people's benefits, be an example and cut yours first".
