The United States has long been proud of a tradition of a free press, and Americans were once the best-informed citizens in the world. Today, the tables have turned, and Americans readily demonstrate ignorance on critical topics. What can make them pay attention to the explosive issues confronting us?
The United States has long been proud of a tradition of a free press, and Americans were once the best-informed citizens in the world. Today, the tables have turned, and Americans readily demonstrate ignorance on critical topics.
The case in point is the complex subject of climate change, and the impact of nearly 7,000,000,000,000 (seven billion) humans on the Earth's atmosphere. Many people simply don't understand the issue, or blithely accept the industrial propaganda assuring them that all is well.
While a sizeable percentage of Americans believes that climate change is a myth, Europeans, for example, are very well informed on the topic, and can more knowledgeably discuss the problems and dangers.
According to a story published in Climate Progress, U.S. media largely ignore the story, or give 'equal time' to paid industry deniers, who have successfully muddled the issues, and generated confusion. Just enough dis-information has been circulated to convince enough people that there is no problem, and block any response.
The U.S. Media is largely ignoring the issue, states the Climate Progress story, and there is little reason to doubt it. Repeated polls have shown that most Americans don't understand what is happening, and many have become 'science averse' or skeptical of science in general.
Meanwhile, empirical data is proving that massive change is already underway within the Earth's biosphere, as the oceans are heating up and becoming steadily more acidic. Americans, although largely ignorant of the issue, are a large portion of the problem. Educating the celebrity-enthralled American masses may take the leadership, not of the unfocused media, but of the celebrities themselves.
What might we imagine would happen if the "role models" among us began to call attention to the issue of climate change? Is it possible that we could organize a concert along the lines of a 'Farm Aid' to show that "We Are The World" or at least understand what the rest of the world grasped several years ago? Is there anything less that can begin the process of opening the eyes of Americans?
In order to begin the process of saving the world as soon as possible, it is necessary to find and recruit entertainers from the worlds of music, film, theatre, and more to lend their voices. Otherwise, the world's biggest economy will be the last to grasp the threat of climate change.
If you think that you can help with this concept, please take action today. I will do all I can. Nothing less is going to get the attention of Americans in time.
